When going to bet World Series odds, you’re down to two choices, New York and Philadelphia. In the Pac-10, with all due respect to No.20 Arizona, it’s now down to two teams, No.5 USC and No.5 Oregon. The two clash in Eugene on Saturday night, and the Trojans will be greeted by 54,000 screaming Oregon fans.
USC vs Oregon Odds – Saturday, October 31, 8:00 PM ET
The Trojans (6-1, 3-1) beat Oregon State 42-36 in a game that didn’t need to be that close. USC led 42-23 in the fourth quarter, but for the second straight week, the defense had some late lapses in concentration, and that’ll hurt them against better teams, such as Oregon. The Trojans are 13th in the nation in rushing, which takes pressure off of freshman quarterback Matt Barkley, who has performed above expectations this year. Allen Bradford had 147 yards and a couple of touchdowns against Oregon State, which makes up for the loss of the injured Stafon Johnson. But until the defense learns that it’s a 60-minute game, the Trojans’ online betting chances are in danger.
Speaking of missing running backs, the Ducks (6-1, 4-0) have not lost a step since LaGarrette Blount was suspended for his infamous punch in the season opener at Boise State. LaMichael James ran for 154 yards and two scores, which is his fourth 100-yard game in his last five outings. Jeremiah Masoli returned to the lineup to go 14-of-22 for 157 yards and a touchdown, along with 54 yards on the ground and two more scores. The defense has been great this year, coming in 19th in the country, and they forced three turnovers in a 43-19 romp at Washington, which was their sixth victory in a row.
Sportsbook odds are backing USC by three points as they’ve won four of their last five against the Ducks, but they’ve dropped four of their last six trips to Eugene, which is gaining a reputation as one of the noisiest places in all of colege football. The Trojans will try and shut down the Ducks’ ground game, leaving Masoli to beat them with his arm, and that will play right into their hands. The Oregon defense is good, but they haven’t seen an offense as balanced as USC this year.
