Cincinnati at South Florida
Thursday, 7:45 pm Eastern – ESPN
A matchup of unbeaten Top 25 teams gets the ESPN spotlight on Thursday night as 21st ranked South Florida host 8th ranked Cincinnati. The Bearcats are led by quarterback Tony Pike while South Florida has a defense that ranks 5th in the country.
Cincinnati is a 2.5-point favorite with a total of 49.5 at SBG Global.
The Bearcats have won three straight in this series against South Florida. To continue the winning streak the Bearcats will need to find a way to score against the Bulls defense. Last season it was Pike throwing for 281 yards and two TDs in the Bearcats 24-10 win. This season he has been even better as he has thrown for 1,493 yards and 13 TDs. The Bearcats are third in the country at 43.2 college football betting points per game. Cincinnati’s defense is not getting the spotlight but they have also played well. “We’d be concerned if our defense was out there struggling, but as you can see the last two weeks, they’ve bowed up when they needed to and they’re continuing to make plays,” said Pike, “On offense, we’re going to come out when we get the possessions and make the most out of it.”
The Bulls defense is third in the country in forcing turnovers and 10th in total yards allowed. They intercepted Syracuse quarterback Greg Paulus five times in their conference opener two weeks ago. Safety Nate Allen leads the team with 29 tackles. On offense the Bulls are led by freshman quarterback B.J. Daniels, who took over for the injured Matt Grothe. He has played well, throwing for six TDs and only two interceptions.
The Bearcats lead the overall series 4-2 including three straight wins. This is the first time in the series that both teams will be ranked. South Florida has won five straight games against teams ranked in the AP Top 25.
Here are the college football betting stats for Thursday’s game. The Bearcats are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 conference games. The Bearcats are 7-15-1 ATS in their last 23 games as a road favorite. The Bearcats are 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings against South Florida.
