NASCAR Odds – Race To The Chase Ends At Richmond
This week’s online betting NASCAR odds comes from Richmond International Raceway, site of the Chevy Rock & Roll 400, and with only four drivers having clinched a spot in the Chase, this is the last chance to either cement your spot, or race your way in. Here’s a look at the Chase contenders, and their odds for Saturday night’s race on the 3/4-mile track.
Sportsbook Richmond Odds – Saturday, September 12, 7:30 PM ET
Carl Edwards (+1500): Edwards needs to finish 24th or better, but we didn’t get a chance to see how his broken foot held up at Atlanta as he had mechanical problems early in the race. Edwards has a 23.4 average in five Richmond races, but he should be okay to break the top 20.
Kasey Kahne (+1800): Last week’s Atlanta winner, Kahne has three top-10s in five Richmond races. He only needs to finish 21st here, so look for Kahne to drive conservatively.
Kurt Busch (+1500): The No.2 driver has three top-10s in his last six races. The other three? Lower than 27th. He has a 16.1 average in eight Richmond races and a 2005 win, but he can’t afford another bad finish, so look for Busch to be aggressive.
Juan Pablo Montoya (+2500): Montoya needs to finish 18th, but it’s not looking good: in five trips to Richmond, he’s got a 27.8 average. Stay away from him in your handicapping software.
Ryan Newman (+2000): After four midpack finishes, Newman has two straight top-10s. He won here in 2005, but has only two top-10s in seven Richmond races. He needs a 16th-place run to make the Chase.
Mark Martin (+900): With by far the most experience, Martin has 26 top-10s in 47 Richmond races, but only one win and that was in 1990. Still, he’s a good bet, as he’s finished on the lead lap every year here since 2002. He needs a 12th place finish, even with his series-high four wins, which has him tied with Kyle Busch for the lead.
Greg Biffle (+1800): Biffle has five top-10s in 14 Richmond races, and he needs to finish 11th. With a finishing average of 15.8, “The Biff” has some work to do. Picking him is like take the Rangers’ World Series odds: it’s going to be close if he makes it to the playoffs, but if he makes it, he’ll make noise.
Matt Kenseth (+2000): Kenseth is one of two drivers to make every Chase, but he only needs to finish ahead of Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch. A second-place run with one led lap will also help, and he has nine top-10s in 19 Richmond races.
Brian Vickers (+2500): He has eight straight finishes inside the top 12, but Richmond hasn’t been kind to Vickers: in 10 races here, he has a single top-10.
Kyle Busch (+600): The favorite this week, Busch has seven top-fives in nine races here, but the fall race hasn’t been so kind to him. In the last two Richmond fall races, he’s finished 15th and 20th.
Pick: Martin’s experience will carry him to a Chase-clinching victory. Go with the No.5 in your sports picks.
