Golf Odds – Cream Rises To The Top At Deutsche Bank Championship

If you played last week’s sportsbook golf odds and picked Heath Slocum, well done to you but cherish it, because it won’t happen again. The Deutsche Bank Championship has been played six times, and five times it’s been won by a high-profile golfer, so you should expect the same this Labor Day weekend.

Golf Odds – Friday, September 4

Tiger Woods came up just short in his attempt to win The Barclays for the first time, finishing one shot behind Slocum. The world’s No.1 finished second in a thrilling duel with Phil Mickelson in 2007, but missed last year’s event because of his knee injury. However, you know that Woods will be the online betting favorite this week, as he has six top-two finishes in his last eight starts, including four wins, and he won this event in 2006.

Ernie Els finished T-3 at last year’s Deutsche Bank Championship, and his final-round 66 at The Barclays was one of the low scores of the day. It was good to see the “Big Easy” back in form, and in particular, he looked stronger on the greens than he has in years.

Padraig Harrington made a run at The Barclays, and we’re betting that your handicapping software has no idea what to do with last year’s Player of the Year, who has three top-10s in a row, including a pair of runner-up finishes. A poor first round doomed him in the Deutsche Bank Championship last year, but with the run that Harrington is on, you can count on him begin around during the final round.

What about two-time champion Vijay Singh? He missed the cut at The Barclays to drop him almost 20 spots in the FedEx Cup standings, but he shot a final-round 63 in last year’s event at the TPC Boston to earn the victory. Guys like Steve Stricker and Mickelson, and even the surprising Slocum will get more love, but with the value that Singh will offer, he’s worth a shot in your sports picks during this holiday-weekend tournament.
