The Detroit Red Wings couldn’t put the Pittsburgh Penguins away on Tuesday night in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals, losing 4-2 and now they face the prospect of the series being tied if they lose Game 4 on Thursday night. The Red Wings outplayed the Penguins for most of Game 3 but didn’t get the breaks they got in the first two games. A third period power play goal by Sergei Gonchar gave the Penguins a 3-2 lead and they added an empty net goal by Maxine Talbot to wrap it up. “I don’t want to say it was a must win, but I think everybody knows that we needed to win this game,” said Talbot.
SBG Globalreports that early Hockey betting has the public taking Red Wings on the Road.
Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury finally played well for the Penguins in the Game 3 win. “I know in the first and second game, maybe he got criticized a little bit,” Talbot said, “Tonight, he was definitely first.” The Penguins got more out of their two superstars as Evgeni Malkin had three assists while Sidney Crosby added one. “They were desperate. They played hard,” Detroit’s Brad Stuart said. “They took it up a notch – they had to.”
Last year in the Stanley Cup Finals the scenario was the same as Detroit won the first two at home and then lost Game 3. Last year they won Game 4 so it will be interesting to see if history repeats itself on Thursday. “I think in the two at home, one of them could have gone the other way,” Detroit head coach Mike Babcock said. “I think this series is where it should be. These are two good teams going at it.”
Here are the Hockey betting stats for Thursday’s game. The Red Wings are 14-4 in their last 18 Stanley Cup Finals games. The Red Wings are 0-5 in their last 5 games as a road underdog. The Red Wings are 12-5 in the last 17 meetings between the two teams.
